Bakersfield Finishes 04-05 Season with Back-to-Back Wins

Friday, CONDORS 5 vs. Idaho 3; attn: 8,188

Bakersfield fought back from two separate deficits to tie the game and put up three goals in the final stanza to snap Idaho's 18-game unbeaten streak with a 5-3 win. Mathieu Brunelle scored twice in the third period to break a five-game scoring slump. Combined with the Condors win Friday, and Fresno's lose in Long Beach on the same night, the Condors locked up their playoff spot.

Saturday, CONDORS 4 vs. Idaho 3; attn: 5,860

Mathieu Brunelle had a goal and two assists and both Brett Lutes and Sylvain Deschatelets recorded 1g-1a in a 4-3 win over Idaho in the regular season finale. Bakersfield finished the regular season 5-1-1 against the Steelheads and Davis Parley won for the second straight game.

Where we stand

Bakersfield takes the fourth place spot in the division with a record of 40-22-10 and 90 points, one point behind Idaho, five points behind second place Long Beach and eight points behind first place Alaska. The Condors wins and point totals were second best in team history and the best since joining the ECHL.

What's up this week

Bakersfield opens their first round match up against the Alaska Aces on Tuesday with three games in three nights. Games 1 and 2 are Tuesday and Wednesday at the Sullivan Arena in Anchorage, both 8:15 p.m. (PST). Game 3 will take place at the Rabobank Arena on Thursday, April 14th at 7:00 p.m. The first 2,000 fans will get a Condors Rolling Blackout t-shirt, and all fans should wear black to the game and help the Condors blackout the Aces. KGET-TV 17, The Big 96.5 and U.S. Army sponsor the first round of the playoffs.

Game 4, if necessary, will be on Saturday, April 16th at the Rabobank Arena. That night Bakersfield native and American Idol star Amy Adams will be singing the National Anthem as well as performing during the first intermission. She will be available for photos and autographs as well. If a fifth game is necessary, it will take place on Monday, April 18th in Alaska at 8:15 p.m. (PST).

· The Condors finished the regular season with a record of 4-2-1 against Alaska - their first round opponent. Technically, Bakersfield was 5-1-1 against the Aces, but a forfeited victory hurt their record. · The 8,188 fans on Friday night was the fourth largest crowd of the season. Four of the top seven attended games in Condors history were this season. Bakersfield finished fifth in the ECHL with an average of 5,408 fans per game. · Mathieu Brunelle finished the regular season as the team's leading goal scorer, with 27 on the season. He had 13g-4a-17pts and a +6 in 18 games since being acquired from Dayton. He had 3g-2a-5pts in the final two games of the season. · Davis Parley won his last two games of the season to finish 3-2-1 with the Condors, with a 2.87 GAA and a .922 save percentage.
