Reading Royals News Release
The Reading Royals, affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and AHL's Manchester Monarchs, are proud to announce that at last night's City Council meeting, Mayor Thomas M. McMahon proclaimed this week, "Patrick J. Kelly Cup Week" in Reading in honor of the Reading Royals first place standing in the ECHL North Division.
To commemorate this proclamation, Mayor McMahon will designate Penn Street, between 3rd and 8th Streets in Downtown Reading, "Kelly Cup Drive," as long as the Royals are in the ECHL's Kelly Cup Playoffs. On Wednesday, April 13th at 2:00 p.m. the new "Kelly Cup" street signage will be unveiled at the corner of 5th and Penn Streets.
Prior to the Royals opening round playoff battle with the Toledo Storm, a "Spring Snowstorm" will strike downtown Reading. On Thursday, April 14 at 10:00 a.m. the "Spring Snowstorm" will hit 3rd and Penn Streets. This isolated storm will signify the start of the North Division Semifinals. The North Division Champion Reading Royals will play host to the Toledo Storm at the Sovereign Center on Thursday, April 14 at 7:05 p.m. The first 2,000 fans through the Sovereign Center gates receive a 2004-05 Royals team poster courtesy of the Reading Eagle Press. Game two between the Royals and Storm takes place on Saturday, April 16th at 7:05 p.m. in the Sovereign Center. Rieck's Printing in West Reading is rewarding the first 3,000 fans in attendance with Royals-Kelly Cup Rally Cards.
The Best-of-Five opening round series travels over to Toledo in the Sports Arena on Sunday at 6:05 p.m. If necessary, game four will be on Tuesday in Toledo at 7:05 p.m., while a decisive game five will be in Reading on Wednesday, April 20 at 7:05 p.m.
Kelly Cup Playoff action can be found live on ESPN radio, 1240AM and via the Royals web site at www.royalshockey.com courtesy of Sportsjuice and B2 Networks. The Classic Café pregame show comes your way approximately 30-minutes prior to the drop of the puck.
