Lynx Finish Season With Two Points On Week

April 12, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release

Augusta finished their 2004-05 season by collecting overtime points against South Carolina on Tuesday and Gwinnett Friday, as well as dropping a regulation decision to the Gladiators Saturday night.

The Stingrays made their way into Augusta looking to push themselves towards Columbia in pursuit of the Eastern Division lead and the second overall seed in the American Conference playoffs. Ken Magowan gave the Lynx the lead with a power play goal before Kevin Spiewack and Rich Peverley combined to give SC a 2-1 advantage early in the second period. The Lynx replied with yet another power play goal from Jamie Johnson, and Brett Clouthier's first marker in an Augusta uniform for a 3-2 lead. Back came the Stingrays, however, tying the game on Ed Courtenay's goal in the third period, and winning the game in overtime just 57 seconds in on Joe Tenute's game winner. Jason Saal stopped 34 shots in earning the overtime point, while Gregg Naumenko turned aside 22 for the win.

Friday marked the opening of a home and home series with Gwinnett, starting on the road. Magowan and Dan Sullivan gave Augusta a 2-1 lead, but Mike Stathopoulos' second goal of the game tied things at 2-2, sending the game to overtime once again. At 2:52 of the extra session, Brad Schell scored to give the Gladiators the win. Not to be lost in the shuffle was a 64 save performance from Matus Kostur, who tied for second-most shots faced in an ECHL contest with Christian Soucy. The record is 65 saves by Greenville's Daniel Boisclair on March 17th, 2004.

Saturday the Lynx rounded out the year with a 3-2 regulation loss to the very same Gladiators. George Nistas scored his first ECHL goal while Louis Goulet also tallied in the game. Chad Collins (19 saves, 22 shots) and Jason Saal (16 shots, 16 saves) split time in the Lynx net. Augusta finished the year 28-35-9 for 65 points.
