Utah Grizzlies News Release
Bakersfield, California - The Bakersfield Condors added a late empty-netter to defeat the Utah Grizzlies 4-1 Sunday night in Bakersfield after Utah took game one of the series 6-4 on Saturday.
Wrapping up three-games-in-three-nights, the fatigued Grizzlies soldiered on with a short bench as they continue to battle a plethora of early season injuries. Sunday, Vinny Scarsella missed his first game of the year leaving Michael Pelech and Mathieu Aubin as the only two Grizzlies to play in all 25 games this season.
Ducks prospect Igor Bobkov, calling for this third start in less than 48 hours, was again tremendous for Utah as he stopped 26 of 29 shots to keep the Grizzlies in the game.
Bakersfield made it 1-0 2:44 into the first period off of a Utah turnover and then 2-0 15:17 into the frame just moments after a potential tying goal for Utah was waved off.
The Condors added another score late in the second following a power-play to make it 3-0 with 5:52 left in the frame.
As fatigued as they were, the shorthanded Grizzlies continued to play hard into the third period as they recorded 10 of the 15 shots in the frame.
Gentry Zollars going hard to the net tapped in his first goal of the year to give the Grizzlies a chance with five minutes left in regulation.
As was the case all night, the chances continued late, but Bakersfield's late empty-netter would seal the contest for the Condors as they earned a series split on their home ice.
