Last Time Out
The teddy bears rained early in the game as Greg Gardner scored 4:06 in on the power play. Vitalijs Pavlovs scored to give the Eagles a two-goal lead after 20 but Mike Pereira scored his second in as many games to cut the deficit to one, however the second half of the second period saw the Eagles add three. The Thunder scored two goals in the third within a minute of each other but Nathan Moon's empty netter sealed the Thunder loss 3-6.
Tonight
The Thunder have their final game of the four-game series with Colorado today in an afternoon tilt before flying back to California. The team won the first game but has now fallen in two straight contests to the eagles. If you are a believer in history and trends, you'll be happy to know that going into the game last night the Thunder were 12-12-0 lifetime against the Eagles so if trends should repeat themselves, the Thunder may be able to tie up the lifetime record tonight.
Who to Watch
We picked him last night and with the injury problems we're going to pick him again. After missing 14 games with a lower body injury and a stint on the 21-day IR list, Mike Pereria has come back and made a difference in his return.
Pereira scored his first goal as a member of the Thunder on Friday night and scored again on Saturday to carry into Sunday's game a two-game goal streak. He also continues to showcase his speed and tenacity on and off the puck that we hadn't seen since Halloween in Idaho. Keep an eye on the speedy winger tonight as he could be relied upon to create more offense.
In his four years at UMass-Amherst, Pereira never dipped below 11 goals and 22 points. He scored his first pro goal last year in the AHL with the Worcester Sharks after his career at UMass-Amherst ended.
Unlucky in Colorado
The Stockton Thunder just have had some plain old bad luck and misfortune on this trip. Whether it be bounces or calls going the other way, it seems like the Thunder couldn't even buy some good fortune, especially when it comes to the injuries.
The team has lost a player in each of the first three games against the Eagles. On Wednesday it was Lukas Sutter who went into the end boards hard left with a lower body injury.
Then on Friday it was multiple injuries that forced Sebastian Collberg from the game. Collberg, who had scored two goals in the game, was slashed on the wrist and then was hit high. He left and did not return.
On Saturday it was more bad luck, and potentially, a damaging blow to the team, as Ryan Constant left after taking a clean hit from Derek Rodwell. He left the ice with an apparent lower body injury and did not return.
While Sutter and Collberg are said to be day-to-day, Coach Kromm was unsure of the severity of Constant's injury but should learn more soon.
All-Time Watch
We're monitoring the situation between Garet Hunt, Ryan Constant and Mike Lalonde as Lalonde's all-time lead in points could be in danger of falling to one of the Thunder's star players soon.
Lalonde's 156 career points is in jeopardy as Constant pulled ahead with 151 points with the Thunder while Hunt is right behind them both with 145.
That means Constant is just 5 points back of tying the record while Hunt is 11 points back of tying the record.
Hunt is the only one close to Lalonde's all-time record of 72 goals with his 54 markers, putting the Thunder captain 18 shy of tying the record.
Milestones
A couple of milestones were reached yesterday as goalie Kent Simpson played in his 50th ECHL game of his career while Jack MacLellan played in his 100th game of his pro career.
MacLellan is also just 2 points away from 50 in the ECHL.
Alex Mallet could also hit 50 ECHL points soon as he's just five away from that mark however he's been held pointless in his last three games.
Streaks on the Line tonight
Jack MacLellan is on an tied team-high eight-game point streak (5G, 7A).
Sebastian Collberg is on a four-game point streak (3G, 3A).
Ryan Hayes is on a four-game point streak (3G, 1A)
Mike Pereira has scored in back-to-back games (2G, 0A)
Interesting Stat
The Thunder are 8-8-1 with Peter Sivak in the lineup and 2-6-0 without him. The team goal differential with Sivak is 0, while without him it's -20.
