OREM, UT Jan. 5, 2009 - Trey Johnson scored a game-high 26 points and delivered five assists to lead the Bakersfield Jam past the Austin Toros 102-90 in NBA D-League Showcase day four action at the McKay Events Center.
The Jam (12-5) featured a short bench, playing just seven players in the win - Johnson played 45 minutes while Derrick Byars clocked in for 46, scoring 21 points, and neither Terrance Thomas nor Nick Lewis came off the floor for Bakersfield. Thomas finished the night with 18 points and 12 rebounds while Lewis added 22 points and 12 rebounds.
Lewis was more than happy to get abundant court time.
"The Showcase is awesome," Lewis said. "We love coming out here, getting this opportunity to play in front of a lot of GMs and a lot of scouts. We love this and I think we've turned a lot of heads out here. We've already won more games than we did all of last year and we're playing well, playing good team ball."
Austin (12-5) was led by former Arizona Wildcat Marcus Williams who had 22 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Andre Brown had 15 points and 10 rebounds while Charles Gaines added 12 points and 11 rebounds to aid the Toros, who outscored the Jam 20-2 in fast break points.
Both teams return to action on Saturday, Jan. 10 when the Jam travels to play the Reno Bighorns and the Toros host the Colorado 14ers.
