Brandon, MB - The Brandon Wheat Kings ran their winning streak to five games with a 5-1 win over the Calgary Hitmen on Wednesday night at Westoba Place.

The Wheat Kings were powered by a quick start, jumping out to a 3-0 lead before the game was six minutes old.

Stelio Mattheos and Cole Reinhardt led the way with two goals and two assists each in helping Brandon build period leads of 3-1 and 4-1.

Ridly Greig also scored for the Wheat Kings who move into a tie with the Red Deer Rebels for the second Eastern Conference Wildcard spot, two points back of Calgary.

Vladislav Yeryomenko, with his second goal in as many games, replied for the Hitmen.

Calgary, which suffered just their third regulation loss in the last 13 games, outshot Brandon 28-22.

The Hitmen three-game East Division road trip continues on Friday, Feb. 22 in Regina against the Pats. Calgary then head to Swift Current to open up a home-and-home set with the Broncos on Saturday, Feb. 23.

The rematch at the Scotiabank Saddledome goes on Wednesday, Feb. 27. The 11 a.m. start is the TELUS BE BRAVE Anti-Bullying game. It is also the last game of February. The Hitmen will open March with three games in three days hosting Brandon (Mar. 1) and Kootenay (Mar. 3) with a trip to Cranbrook (Mar. 2) to visit the ICE stacked in between.
