Montgomery Biscuits News Release
KODAK, Ten. - The Biscuits (6-6) hit back-to-back home runs for the first time this season, but it was not enough as the Tennessee Smokies (6-7) won their first back-to-back games of the year, taking it 9-3 on Tuesday night.
Kean Wong led off the top of the second with a bomb down the right field line to tie the game at one after Biscuits starter Taylor Guerrieri (0-1) allowed a solo homerun to Jacob Hannemann on his second pitch of the night. Then first baseman Casey Gillaspie went the other way with a solo shot of his own, his second of the year, to hand Montgomery a 2-1 advantage.
But Southern League Player of the Week, Bijan Rademacher took Guerrieri deep in the bottom half of the second, and clubbed another home run in the bottom of the fourth-this one a three-run blast-to give the Smokies a 5-2 lead. Tennessee was in the driver's seat, as they rattled off six unanswered runs before the Biscuits got one back in the seventh on a Gillaspie RBI-single.
Guerrieri went just 4.2 innings, allowing seven runs on six hits, and was outpitched by Smokies starter Brad Markey (1-0), who despite giving up eight hits, held the Biscuits to just two runs in five innings of work. The Smokies would tack on a couple more insurance runs in the seventh to seal the victory.
The Biscuits are now back at .500 for the first time since April 13, and will look to avoid dipping below that number on Wednesday when they send Ryne Stanek (0-2) to the mound against Tyler Skulina (1-1) at 11:05 AM CT.
The Biscuits will return to Riverwalk in three days to open up a five-game series with the Jacksonville Suns on Friday, April 22 when it will be Princess Night and an all-new MAX Fireworks Show.
