Birmingham Barons News Release
JACKSON, TN - A ricochet off the glove of Birmingham Barons LHP Brian Clark sailed into left field and allowed the winning run to score in a 5-4 loss to the Jackson Generals.
The run against Clark marks the first score against the Southpaw this season, and capped off a wild final five innings that saw all nine runs in the game scored between the two teams.
Barons' pitcher Jordan Guerrero threw throwing four scoreless innings in his third start of the season, surrendering just two hits in what appeared to be a pitcher's duel heading into the fifth inning.
Both offenses broke through in the fifth frame, with Birmingham capitalizing on a pair of Jackson errors for three runs before allowing the Generals to draw even just a half inning later. Birmingham trailed 4-3 entering the eighth inning but tied the game on a Trey Michalczewski double into right field that scored Eudy Pina and once again evened the scoring before Jackson pulled ahead in the home half.
Adam Engel delivered his Southern League leading third triple of the young season as part of a 2-for-5 night from the leadoff spot. Eddy Alvarez added an RBI and a stolen base from the second spot in the order, with the designated hitter Pina adding a run and an RBI of his own from the three spot.
Birmingham looks to even the series against Jackson tomorrow morning, with the first morning matinee of the season slated to start with an 11:05 a.m. first pitch. LHP David Holmberg seeks his first win of the year, matched up against RHP Sam Gaviglio in the fourth game of a five game road series.
