Bachman Recalled By AHL's Texas Stars
April 1, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release
(Boise, ID) - As the Idaho Steelheads left Alaska en route to southern California, goaltender Richard Bachman headed a different direction.
The 22-year-old netminder headed for Austin, TX, to join up with the Texas Stars after being recalled by Idaho's AHL affiliate.
In the past two days, Bachman has been named to the ECHL's All-Rookie team as well as the All-ECHL second team. He carries a 22-7-3 record in the ECHL with a league-best 2.28 goals-against average. The Colorado College product has been recalled to Texas twice before, appearing in a total of six games. He's 3-3 in those six outings, carrying a 2.07 goals-against average and .927 save percentage. He has five total shutouts to his credit this season, four with Idaho and one with Texas.
Idaho (ECHL) and Texas (AHL) are the primary development affiliates for the NHL's Dallas Stars.
Idaho head coach Derek Laxdal also announced the team has released defenseman Dustin Molle from his ECHL contract and forward Brandon Knelsen from his amateur tryout agreement. Knelsen picked up his first professional point, an assist, in Wednesday night's game against the Alaska Aces.
"I liked what I saw from those two," Laxdal said. "They acquitted themselves very well for us."
The team also released emergency backup goaltender Jon Olthuis.
The Steelheads wrap up the regular season with games Friday and Saturday night in Bakersfield, CA, against the Condors. Fans can listen to the game on KTIK (1350 AM) or ktik.com with Doug Plagens calling the action.
The Steelheads open up the ECHL Kelly Cup Playoffs on April 16 and 17 at Qwest Arena.
