Salmon Kings' Sharrow Named To All-ECHL Team
April 1, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that defenseman Jimmy Sharrow has been named to the All-ECHL Second Team.
The native of Framingham, MA receives his first ECHL honour as the league announced its All-ECHL First and Second Teams on Thursday for 2009-10 as determined in a vote of ECHL coaches.
"This is a great honour for Jimmy and the Salmon Kings," General Manager and Head Coach Mark Morrison said. "He has been an elite defenseman in the ECHL all season long, and this award is a reflection of that. We are very proud of him."
The 25-year-old has played in 55 games with the Salmon Kings this season recording 43 points (11g-32a) while serving 43 minutes in penalties. Sharrow completed a defensive club-record on January 15th when he recorded a point in his 12th straight game, a stretch that saw him amass 16 points (5g-11a). The mark also sits as the longest point-scoring streak by a defenseman in the ECHL this year.
He joined the Salmon Kings on November 11th after beginning the year with the Wheeling Nailers where he accrued two points (1g-1a) in four games played. Sharrow also played two games in the American Hockey League (AHL) this season split between the Moose and San Antonio Rampage, where he notched one assist and two penalty minutes.
Amongst defenseman, his point total ranks second in the National Conference, and he is also tied for the league-lead in power play goals (8) and points (25).
Sharrow is the fourth Salmon Kings' player to be named to the All-ECHL Second Team following Wes Goldie (2008-09), Ash Goldie (2007-08), and Steven Lingren (2005-06). Victoria also boasts one All-ECHL First Team honour, as defenseman Dylan Yeo picked up the award last season.
The 6-2, 198 lb. blue liner was a fourth-round draft pick (110th overall) of the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
