Binghamton Senators News Release


LAST WEEK: The Sens (26-28-6-2) have 60 points and share fifth place in the East Division of the Eastern Conference with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pengunins. The Senators have lost six consecutive outings to set a new franchise record and have gone winless in their last nine on the road (0-7-2), also a franchise record.

MONDAY, FEB. 23rd @ MANCHESTER (0-2 L): Binghamton's first ever visit to Verizon Wireless Arena was a fruitless one with the Monarchs countering their 2-0 loss in Binghamton November 21st by blanking the Sens 2-0. ADAM HAUSER turned aside all 22 shots for the win. The teams played a scoreless opening forty minutes before JEFF GIULIANO finally broke the ice with a goal at 7:46 of the final period. NOAH CLARKE added an insurance marker off of a turnover at 11:11 to close out the scoring. RAY EMERY went the distance in goal, stopping 32 of 34 shots. WEDNESDAY, FEB. 25th vs. WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON (3-4 L): The Sens scored on their first shot of the game as DENIS HAMEL snapped an eight-game goal drought 11:00 into the game, but the Penguins answered with three straight goals in the next nine minutes to take a 3-1 lead after one period. ALEXANDRE GIROUX brought Binghamton back with a pair goals, one each in the second and third periods, to tie the contest at 3-3. But just 35 seconds after his 18th of the season made it a brand new game, JESSE COOK's deflected shot eluded RAY EMERY (38 saves) and held up as the game-winner. FRIDAY, FEB. 27th @ NORFOLK (1-6 L): The Sens were outshot 28-4 in the opening forty minutes in falling behind 3-0. ARPAD MIHALY got Binghamton on the board 5:01 into the third period, but it would serve as the offense the club would receive in putting a franchise-low 13 shots on goal. The two shots on goal in each of the first two periods matched a franchise record for fewest shots on goal in a period and was the third time in five days the team matched that mark. SATURDAY, FEB. 28th @ NORFOLK (1-3 L): Binghamton put just 11 shots on goal to set a new team record in dropping its second straight game in Norfolk. DAVID HYMOVITZ drew the Sens even at 1-1 midway through the second period before ANTON BABCHUK scorched a bullet past a screened RAY EMERY (18 saves) with 2:30 left in the middle period for the deciding goal. The loss was a record-setting fifth straight for Binghamton. Shots: 21-11 NOR PP: BNG 0x3 NOR 0x4 PIM: BNG 10x29 NOR 10/37

SUNDAY, FEB. 29th @ HERSHEY (2-4 L): The offensive struggles continued for the Senators, who mustered just 10 shots goal in the first forty minutes in falling behind the Bears 4-0. Former Bear CHARLIE STEPHENS got the Sens on the board with his 13th of the season just under six minutes into the third period and STEVE BANCROFT converted on a power play goal with 2:21 left in the game, but Binghamton could not recover from RYAN CRAIG's two second period markers. CRAIG's goal 3:20 into the second period was the game-winner. The loss concluded a seven-game in nine-night stretch in which the Sens were 1-6-0-0. THIS WEEK: Binghamton faces another three-game week as its six-game road trip continues with just 18 games left in the regular season

WEDNESDAY, MAR. 3rd @ WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON (7:05 p.m.): The Sens and Penguins meet for the sixth of eight regular season contests and the second of four at Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza. Wilkes-Barre took the lead in the season series at 2-1-2 after their 4-3 win in Binghamton last Wednesday. The Sens are 6-5-2 all-time against the Penguins with a 2-2-1 mark in Wilkes-Barre. ALEXANDRE GIROUX leads the Sens in series scoring with four goals and five points. ANDY HEDLUND, PETER SMREK, and JULIEN VAUCLAIR have two points each in the five previous games. Binghamton's power play has clicked at a 7x33 (21.2%) rate in the series.

FRIDAY, MAR. 5th @ ROCHESTER (7:35 p.m.): The Sens and Amerks hook up in the fifth of eight regular season games and the third of four at Blue Cross Arena. Binghamton owns a 3-1 lead in the season series and is 6-2-2 all-time (2-2-1 in Rochester) against the Amerks. The Sens have split their first two visits to Rochester this season, winning their most recent visit 3-2 on January 28th. DENIS HAMEL leads the Sens with four points (1+3) in the season series while RAY EMERY has a 1.74 GAA in playing every minute against Rochester this season.

SUNDAY, MAR. 7th @ BRIDGEPORT (4:05 p.m.): The Sens and Sound Tigers renew their rivalry in their first meeting since New Year's Eve, a 2-0 win by the Sens that tied the season series at three wins apiece. This will be the sixth of seven regular season encounters and the fourth and final trip into the Arena at Harbor Yard for Binghamton. The Sens are 5-6-1 all-time against the Sound Tigers with a 1-4-1 mark at Harbor Yard. That lone win came the season's opening weekend, October 13th, with Binghamton taking a 2-1 decision. The six previous games have featured just 20 goals combined, nine of which came in a 5-4 Bridgeport win Thanksgiving night, and three shutouts. JOSH LANGFELD (3+1), currently on recall with Ottawa, and DENIS HAMEL (2+2) lead Binghamton in series scoring with four points each. The Sens are 0x28 on the power play against the Sound Tigers.

B-NOTES: The Sens have managed a combined 61 shots on goal in four all-time visits to Norfolk...During their current six-game losing streak, the Sens have come out ice cold in the first period with just 21 shots and one goal scored in 120 minutes of play...Binghamton has been outshot in 39 of 62 games this season, including 15 of their last 16 outings...DENIS HAMEL is tied for 10th in league scoring with 50 points (22+28)...BRIAN McGRATTAN is 2nd in PIM with 269...Goaltender RAY EMERY, who has started 18 of the last 19 contests, is third in the AHL with 1212 saves.
