Akron scored twice in the second and never trailed after that, beating the Binghamton Mets 5-2 at Canal Park yesterday...Akron also scored an unearned run in the fourth and twice in the fifth off starter Miguel Piñango, who lasted 4 2/3 innings...Corey Ragsdale homered and Jonathan Slack also drove in a run from Binghamton, who got a double and a run scored from Jay Caligiuri...Andy Wilson and Bobby Malek each had two hits...the B-Mets bullpen threw 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. Ryan Cullen struck out three in 2 1/3 and Robert Paulk tossed an inning of shutout baseball in his B-Mets debut...the loss is Binghamton's second straight to Akron and 11th in their last 16 games.

The B-Mets took two of three at Erie over the weekend, their first road series win this year and first series win since they swept three from Reading 4/10-12 at NYSEG Stadium in their second series of the year... Binghamton's hit .193 over their last seven games, bringing their batting average for the season down to .234...Binghamton's lost six in a row at Canal Park, with their last win coming 4/9/05...yesterday's loss drops Binghamton below .500 for the first time this year.

About Akron

The Aeros took two of three from Altoona at Canal Park over the weekend and have won seven of their last eight, including a sweep of Binghamton at NYSEG Stadium last Monday-Wednesday, shutting out the B-Mets in the last two contests...Akron's .275 average and 41 stolen bases both lead the EL...30 of their steals have come from either Todd Donovan, who leads the league with 17, or Eider Torres, who has 13.

B-Mets manager Juan Samuel, struck in the face by a foul ball off the bat of Akron's Pat Osborn 4/24, underwent surgery to repair his nose and cheekbone Monday in New York. He isn't expected to return to the dugout until Saturday at the earliest. Kevin Morgan, the NY Mets' Coordinator of Field Instruction and a former B-Mets infielder ('95-'97) is serving as the interim manager. He is wearing number four...the B-Mets hit .282 in the first eight games, seven of which they won, but just .210 in the 16 games since, 11 of which they've lost...Michel Abreu has acclimated himself well to the Eastern League, picking up hits in all four games he's played with Binghamton since being called up from High-A St. Lucie Friday... Today's game is the second of 11 games with a.m. start times that the B-Mets will play this year, with all but three of those contests coming on the road...the B-Mets lost their first a.m. game 4-3 in 11 innings 4/19 @ NH. Turned in longest outing of the year, working on six days' rest...retired nine of first 10 with a two out single by Mike Rabelo the only blemish...allowed back-to-back singles to start the fourth before Kurt Airoso's RBI groundout accounted for Erie's only run of the night...Airoso's groundout started a string of nine consecutive retired...recorded just three flyouts and didn't allow a home run for the first time in four starts...beat Erie for the second straight start.

Making sixth start...went exactly five innings in each of his four starts before breaking through with seven innings Friday ...yielded two or fewer runs in three of his five starts...lefthanders (.296) have had more success against him than righties (.244)...hasn't allowed more than one home run in any start...issued two walks all season...five shutout innings on Opening Night, 4/6 vs. AKR, allowing just two hits.
