New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH- RHP Steve Andrade was called up to the Kansas City Royals Monday and made his Major League debut that same day. Andrade, who spent the 2005 season with the Fisher Cats, also pitched last night for the Royals. In his first two Major League games, he has thrown 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing 1 hit and striking out 2. He becomes the 11th player to reach the Major Leagues after playing for the Fisher Cats.
The 28-year-old righty was selected by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays from the Toronto Blue Jays in the Major League Rule 5 draft this past offseason. He was then traded to the San Diego Padres, where he spent most of 2006 Spring Training. When he did not make the Padres' 25-man active roster, he was released and picked up by Kansas City. Last year with the Fisher Cats, he went 3-2 with 3 saves and a 1.97 ERA in 35 relief appearances, piling up 71 strikeouts and just 16 walks in 50.1 innings pitched. He was originally drafted by the Angels in the 32nd round of the 2001 draft out of Cal State Stanislaus.
