Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
The Binghamton Mets scored first, but the Akron Aeros scored five unanswered, pulling out a 5-3 win at Canal Park Wednesday. Binghamton's dropped the first three games of their series in Akron and 13 of 18 overall.
Binghamton (12-14) cashed in against Akron starter Adam Miller in the third. After Jonathan Slack reached on an error and Andy Wilson singled, Michel Abreu grounded out to first, moving both runners into scoring position. Bobby Malek scored Slack on a fielder's choice and Jay Caligiuri brought in Wilson with a double to leftfield. Malek scored the inning's final run on a J.E. Cruz sacrifice fly off Miller (4-1), putting the B-Mets up 3-0.
B-Mets starter Evan MacLane, perfect through three innings, ran into trouble in the fourth, giving up five straight hits to start the frame. Eider Torres scored the first run for Akron (17-10) on a double steal before Ryan Mulhern doubled, scoring Joe Inglett. Jon Van Every tied the game with an RBI single that brought home Kevin Kouzmanoff and Pat Osborn put Akron on top for good with a sacrifice fly, scoring Mulhern. Van Every hit a solo shot off MacLane (3-1) in the sixth for the game's final tally.
Binghamton reliever Ivan Maldonado turned in his eighth consecutive scoreless outing with two shutout innings in relief of MacLane. Akron's Bubbie Buzachero tossed a scoreless ninth for his first save of the year.
Thursday, the B-Mets wrap up their four-game series at Akron. Mike Pelfrey (0-0, 0.00) will get the start for the B-Mets against Sean Smith (1-0, 7.20) of Akron. Game time is 10:35 from Canal Park with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show kicking off the broadcast at 10:20 on Talk 1360 WYOS.
