Peoples Natural Gas Field - Altoona, PA - 7:00 PM
LAST GAME: The Binghamton Mets capped a frustrating weekend visit to Connecticut with a 6-1 loss to the New Britain Rock Cats on Sunday afternoon. The defeat sealed a three-game swept of the B-Mets in which they went 3-for-30 with runners in scoring position and stranded 31 on base over three games. Alex Panteliodis posted three scoreless innings, but allowed five runs in the fourth inning, suffering the loss in his Double-A debut. For the second time in the series, Mike Kvasnicka delivered a back-breaking three run double. Pat Dean allowed one unearned run over 5.2 innings to collect the victory.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Tyler Pill takes the mound for the tenth time this season and makes his first start against the Curve. Pill last pitched on Wednesday, May 28, starting the resumption of Binghamton's suspended game from the previous night. Pill allowed five runs on seven hit over four innings and collected the win thanks for seven runs of offensive support. In his last four starts, Pill has tossed at least five innings and compiled a 1.69 ERA. He was selected in the 4th round in 2011 out of Cal State Fullerton.
ALTOONA STARTER: LHP Joely Rodriguez makes his eleventh start of the season and second against the B-Mets. The southpaw from the Dominican Republic took a no-decision in his last start against the Flying Squirrels on Thursday, May 29. He allowed three runs on seven hits and three walks over 5.1 innings. Rodriguez lost to the B-Mets on May 14, surrendering four runs (two earned) on five hits, while fanning seven over five innings. He signed in March 2009 and is pitching at Double-A for the first time in his career.
ROAD STRUGGLES: Sunday's loss marked the B-Mets eighth straight on the road this season. They've gone 10-15 away from home in 2014. The B-Mets have not beaten a team outside of NYSEG Stadium since they handed the Sea Dogs a 5-0 loss in the first game of a doubleheader on May 19.
AT THE HOT CORNER: Due to injuries to several infielders, the B-Met have relied on backup catchers to man the hot corner in the last four games. Nelfi Zapata, playing third for the first time since high school, has made three starts and committed one error in five total chances. Xorge Carrillo made his pro debut at third on Saturday night, successfully converting both groundballs hit his way into outs.
BOSSES IN THE BULLPEN: Excluding Tyler Pill's relief appearance last Wednesday, the B-Mets bullpen has compiled a 2.40 ERA in the last 23 games. During that span, they've struck out 77 and walked only 20 over 71.3 innings. Binghamton's overall bullpen ERA for the season is down to 3.16.
HELLO, ALTOONA!: The B-Mets make their first of two visits to Peoples Natural Gas Field in 2014. Binghamton went 4-2 on the road against the Curve last year, including a 13-inning, 2-1 loss in their final game there on August 1, 2013.
LEAGUE LEADERS: Matt Reynolds owns a .347 batting average, the third-highest in the Eastern League. Chasen Bradford is second in the league with 11 saves. Jack Leathersich leads all league relievers with a 16.7 K/9 IP ratio.
AGAINST THE CURVE: The B-Mets took two out of three versus Altoona in their first meeting at NYSEG Stadium in mid-May.
SCOUTING ALTOONA: The Curve stumble into this three-game series on a nine-game losing streak, including a 12-inning, 2-1 loss to the Fisher Cats on Sunday afternoon. Altoona has gone 10-27 since opening the season with a 10-9 record.
NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets continue their three-game series against Altoona on Wednesday night. RHP Hansel Robles takes the mound against LHP Zack Dodson.
