Aviators Fall Short in Rally vs. Beach Bums
July 4, 2015 - Frontier League (FL)
Rockford Aviators News Release
Traverse City, MICHIGAN - The Rockford Aviators dropped their 2nd matchup of a 3-game set in Traverse City 2-1 to the Beach Bums Saturday night. The 2 teams will resolve their differences with a rubber game on Sunday.
Michael Shreves took the hill for the Beach Bums and kept the Aviators off the board until the 5th. The righty got early support from his offense. The Beach Bum attack was able to capitalize off Aviators starter Kyle Brueggeman for a pair of 1st inning scores to build a lead the Aviators could not overcome.
The Rockford boys finally got on the board vs. Shreves in the 5th when Danny Stientstra doubled to start the inning and was brought home by a bloop single off the bat of Elijah Trail. The RBI was Trail's 3rd in the last 3 games.
The Aviators threatened but could not break through against the Traverse City relief corps the rest of the way though. The Rockford squad put men on the corners in the 7th, only to see the threat neutralized on a controversial inning-ending double play call at 1st base. In the 8th, they loaded the bases only to once again be undone by a DP.
Breuggemann took the loss despite holding the Bums off the board after the 1st for the rest of his 7 inning appearance. Shreves picked up the win and Andrew Brockett got the save by pitching a scoreless 9th.
The series will be decided in Traverse City at 5:05 ET/4:05 CT Sunday. Kyle Hassna is expected to go for Rockford.
