
Rascals Lose in Hanson's Debut

Florence, KY - The Rascals (22-20) lost 8-5 to the Florence Freedom (19-24) on Friday, July 3 at UC Health Stadium. The Rascals are on a season-long five-game losing streak.
RHP Ray Hanson (L, 0-1) made his first start of the season and took the loss. Hanson, who pitched for the Rascals before being picked up by the Los Angels Angels organization, tossed 4.0 innings. He surrendered seven runs, eight hits, and three walks with four strikeouts.
With two outs in the second inning, 2B Hector Crespo walked and stole second base. 1B Zach Kometani struck out but reached on a dropped third strike. The wild pitch allowed Crespo to advance to third, and a throwing error by catcher Ozzy Gonzalez scored Crespo.
Steve Carillo doubled, and Daniel Fraga singled to lead off the third. Collins Cuthrell then hit a three-run homer, giving Florence a 3-1 lead.
DH Danny Canela hit a solo shot, his eighth of the year, in the fourth frame.
Sam Eberle walked to open the bottom of the inning. Gonzalez then doubled, and both runners scored on a single by Travis Weaver to left field.
Cuthrell hit his second homer of the night, a solo shot, in the fifth inning. Andrew Godbold next walked, and Cody Bishop singled to put men on the corners. The Freedom then attempted a double steal. Bishop was thrown out at second base, but Godbold scored from third.
Canela walked with one out in the sixth inning, and Ard was hit by a pitch. Following a fielder's choice, 1B Zach Kometani hit an RBI single to bring home Canela.
Morales was hit, and CF Curran Redal hit a ground-rule double in the seventh. Morales scored on a balk by pitcher Austin Delmotte, and Redal came home on a sacrifice fly by Canela.
In the bottom of the seventh, Eberle singled, Gonzalez singled, and Weaver walked to load the bases. Carillo hit an RBI infield single that scored Eberle, but Gonzalez was thrown out at home trying to score on the same play.
Florence starter Coleman Stephens (W, 3-4) tossed 6.0 innings and allowed all five Rascals runs. Ed Kohout (S, 6) shut the door in the ninth inning for the save.
RHP Chandler Jagodzinski threw 2.0 scoreless innings of relief. RHP Heith Hatfield surrendered one run in 1.0 frame, and RHP Zeb Sneed tossed 1.0 inning of relief.
The Rascals and Florence Freedom continue their series on Saturday, July 4 at UC Health Stadium at 6:05 p.m. EST.
