Evansville Otters News Release
Schaumburg, IL- The Evansville Otters will try to bounce back after dropping the opening game of their series against the Schaumburg Boomers 5-4 last night.
The Otters mounted a furious rally in the eighth inning, completing a four run comeback with three in the frame, but the bullpen lost the lead in the bottom of the inning, eventually dropping by the 5-4 score.
John Schultz picked up two more hits in the game including an RBI double for his 12th of the season and 28 RBI. That preceded Shayne Houck's two-run home run, his eighth of the year, and his 28th and 29th RBI. Connor Little though allowed a leadoff homerun in the bottom of the eighth to drop to 1-3 on the season, his first runs allowed in his last six outings.
Nik Balog also homered in the game, his first of the season, in the fourth inning to start the four run comeback. It was not the greatest of starts for Preston Olson out on the mound as he allowed four runs through the first three innings, but he settled down to eventually fire seven frames of four run baseball. It was his wildness that got the best of him, walking six batters, a season high in the no decision.
The Otters will toss Tyler Vail (3-2, 4.46) out on the mound to try and even up the series against the Boomers in the Independence Day game. Vail is coming off of arguably his best performance of the season when he went seven innings against the Lake Erie Crushers last Saturday while ceding just two runs on seven hits and striking out five against just two walks, his lowest walk total on the year.
He will be opposed by the Boomers' Edwin Carl who is 1-3 with a 4.06 ERA. The righty last pitched in a win back on June 26th against the Traverse City Beach Bums when he went six innings and did not allow a run on four hits while striking out nine and walking two.
Game time is 6:00 pm CDT with the pregame show with Jake Donnelly scheduled to begin at 5:40 pm CDT.
