March 4, 2021 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Austin FC News Release
Austin, TX - Austin FC, the 27th Club in Major League Soccer (MLS), has announced that Michael Lahoud will join the team as English language TV analyst for the 2021 MLS season. Lahoud will pair with English language TV broadcast commentator, Adrian Healey, for all regionally televised regular season matches. Lahoud's extensive experience as a player in MLS, USL and at the international level, has uniquely positioned him for a transition from a successful career as a player into broadcasting. Lahoud has most recently been serving as a television analyst on Longhorn Network TV for University of Texas-Austin Women's Soccer and ACC Network broadcasts for ACC Men's Soccer.
Lahoud's MLS playing career began in 2009 with Chivas USA, where he played as a midfielder from 2009 - 2012, registering 64 appearances. Lahoud then moved to Philadelphia Union where he made 58 appearances from 2012 - 2016, helping lead the Philadelphia Union to the 2014 and 2015 U.S. Open Cup Finals. Lahoud also played for USL League Two Carolina Dynamo (2006 - 2009) and USL teams Miami FC (2016 - 2017), FC Cincinnati (2018) and San Antonio FC (2019). In 2013, Lahoud also garnered four (4) caps at international level with Sierra Leone, the country of his birth before his family moved to the US in 1993.
"This is a dream come true for me," said Lahoud. "I moved to Texas in 2019, and I've been watching Austin FC grow since I first arrived just down the road in San Antonio. Austin FC is the most exciting new team in sports today, so to have the chance to add my experience as a former player to the Club's English language broadcasts is an honor. I'm going to learn a huge amount from Adrian and can't wait to start in a city like Austin."
"Michael is a fresh voice and a rising star. I am thrilled to welcome him to our broadcast team, and to Austin FC," added Adrian Healey, Austin FC Executive Director of Broadcast and Content and the Club's lead English language TV broadcast commentator. "Michael brings a wealth of experience in the sport, particularly MLS, to our broadcasts. I know our fans are going to enjoy the knowledge, insights and perspective he will bring."
Austin FC announced the Club's first-ever English language broadcast television partnership in February, 2021 with three (3) local television stations owned or operated by Nexstar Inc., including KXAN (NBC Austin), KBVO (MyNetwork TV) and KNVA have (The CW Austin). The CW Austin will be designated as a flagship English language television station of Austin FC and will broadcast a majority of Austin FC's regional telecasts. Any remaining regional broadcasts not assigned to The CW Austin will be aired on either NBC Austin (KXAN) or MyNetworkTV (KVBO).
Full details of Austin FC's inaugural MLS broadcast schedule on The CW Austin (and potentially KXAN/KVBO) will be released shortly, following the release of the 2021 MLS schedule, and will be viewable on AustinFC.com and via Austin FC's social media channels @AustinFC on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. Austin FC fans can follow Michael Lahoud on social media, @MikeLahoud.
