Portland Sea Dogs News Release


ENDING THE ROAD TRIP WITH A WIN The Sea Dogs ended the two week roadtrip with an 11-2 win over the Bowie Baysox on Sunday. Tyler Dearden gave the Sea Dogs a 1-0 lead in the top of the second with an RBI single to score Nathan Hickey and put Portland on the board first. Bowie responded with a solo homer from John Rhodes in the bottom of the second to tie the game at one. Blaze Jordan hit a two-RBI double in the top of third to record his third double in Double-A and put Portland back on top 3-1. Corey Rosier launched a two-run blast to right center field in the top of the fourth and with his seventh homer of the season, Portland extended the 5-1 lead. Jackson Holliday launched a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth but Portland continued to lead 5-2. Five runs scored in the top of the seventh for Portland courtesy of a solo home run by Tyler McDonough (5) before an RBI groundout from Chase Meidroth. An RBI single from Phillip Sikes made it 8-2 Portland before Tyler Dearden launched his second homer of the week to right field.The three-run shot marked his fifth of the season and Portland led 11-2.

HICKEY HOLDS STRONGNathan Hickey is currently riding a twelve-game on-base streak that dates back to July 22nd in New Hampshire. Across that time frame, Hickey has recorded 11 hits while generating eight walks. He holds a team-best .866 OPS and currently has a .386 OBP.

BLAZE IS ON FIREBlaze Jordan hit three of his four Double-A home runs last series against the Bowie Baysox. Two of the three homers were three-run shots. Jordan is hitting .304 in the month of August and .247 in his 19 games at the Double-A level so far.

SCOUTING THE SEA DOGS Portland currently ranks second amongst all of Double-A in stolen bases with 182 collectively, just behind the Somerset Patriots who have 187. Corey Rosier currently leads the league with 40 stolen bases while Phillip Sikes ranks third with 35. The Sea Dogs also rank second in the Eastern League with 182 doubles while ranking third across Double-A.

HISTORICALLY VS HARTFORD This will be the second of three meetings with the Yard Goats this season with the final series being the last week of the regular season. Portland secured the first series against the Yard Goats after taking four of six in Hartford back in May.

STILL IN STRIKING DISTANCE The Sea Dogs are currently 0.5 game behind the first place Somerest Patriots. The Binghamton Rumble Ponies and Reading Fightin Phils are tied for third place, 2.0 games behing Somerset while the Hartford Yard Goats are in fifth place, 4.5 games behind the Patriots.

THIS DATE IN SEA DOGS HISTORY August 8, 1999 - After a three-and-a-half-hour rain delay at Hadlock Field, pitchers Brad Penny (6 IP) and Luis Arroyo (3 IP) combine to toss the first no-hitter in franchise history as Portland defeated the Trenton Thunder 3-0.

PITCHING PREVIEW RHP Wikelman Gonzalez takes the mound for Portland tonight in his first start at Hadlock Field since his no-hitter during the last homestand. In his last start, he tossed 5.0 innings on July 29th at Richmond. He allowed two runs on two hits while walking four and striking out four. He gave up one home run. It was his shortest outing with the Sea Dogs this season.
