Florence Y'alls News Release

FLORENCE FREEDOM (39-43) @ SCHAUMBURG BOOMERS (34-48)

Saturday, August 22, 2015 - 7:00 p.m. ET

Schaumburg Boomers Stadium - Schaumburg, IL

Game #83 - Road Game #41 (39-43), (21-19)

RHP #22 Coleman Stephens (3-4, 4.45 ERA) vs. RHP #3 Taylor Thurber (1-3, 4.91 ERA)

Last time out...

The Freedom took the series opener against the Schaumburg Boomers by a score of 7-3 Friday night. They scored four runs in the first inning and never trailed. Sam Eberle got them on the board with a RBI single and Collins Cuthrell followed with a three-run home run. Up 4-0, Florence added two more runs in the fourth on a RBI double from Daniel Fraga and a Zac Mitchell RBI single. An Isaac Wenrich solo home run in the fifth made the score 7-0. It's the second straight game where Wenrich has gone yard. Schaumburg managed to push across a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth. But the Freedom bullpen shut them down after that. Zach Wendorf (2-1) went five and two thirds innings, giving up three runs on five hits to pick up the win. He got a measure of payback as the Boomers released him earlier this year after nine appearances even though he posted a 1.33 ERA with Schaumburg. Pete Levitt, Ethan Gibbons and Ed Kohout finished the win off for Florence.

For Starters...

Coleman Stephens makes his 11th start of the season tonight. He last pitched on July 26, going five and a third innings, allowing only one run, unearned, on one hit. He walked one and struck out four in a no-decision as the Freedom lost 2-1. Due to multiple stints on the disabled list, Stephens has made only two starts since the end of June. 2015 is Stephens' fourth season of professional baseball and his second go-around in the Frontier League. Florence acquired Stephens as part of a three-team trade on December 28, 2014, which saw Jacob Tanis head to Windy City. The right-hander made his professional debut in 2012 with the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings of the North American Baseball League. Stephens split the 2013 season between the Fort Worth Cats of the United League and the Frontier Greys, compiling an 8-3 record in 20 appearances, 18 starts. Last season, Stephens played in the American Association, splitting time between Amarillo and Gary. Through his first three seasons in professional baseball Stephens has made 62 appearances, 45 starts.

Going for the series win...

The Freedom are looking to win their third consecutive series tonight. They are coming off series wins against Gateway and Joliet. It would mark only the second time in 2015 the Freedom have won three consecutive series. They took two of three from Windy City, Rockford and River City between June 27 and July 5th.

We're going streaking!

Steve Carrillo is currently working on a 10-game hitting streak. Florence is looking to record their fourth winning streak of four games or more this season. A win tonight would also match the Freedom's longest road winning streak of the year at four games.

Walk this way...

The Freedom and Boomers lived up to their statistics as they drew six and seven walks respectively last night. Schaumburg is first in the league in drawing walks with 331 while the Freedom are second at 310.

Flashing the leather...

Both teams lived up to their reputations on defense last night as well. The Freedom have the best fielding percentage in the league at .982 and they did not make an error. Meanwhile the Boomers have the second worst fielding percentage in the league at .972 and they made two errors.

Offensive revival...

After only hitting .223 as a team in the month of July, the Freedom are hitting .267 as a team in August. Sam Eberle is leading the away as usual this month with a .338 average and eight RBI.

Power up...

Collins Cuthrell and Isaac Wenrich went yard last night, marking the 9th time this year the Freedom have hit more than one home run in a game.

Transaction Wire...

The Freedom activated RHP Coleman Stephens from the 14-Day Disabled List today. They sold the contract of RHP Chuck Weaver to the Miami Marlins on Friday.
