Washington, Pa - The Wild Things fell to the Gateway Grizzlies by a score of 3-2 Saturday night at CONSOL Energy Park.
The Grizzlies scored one run each in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, including a solo home run by Grant Buckner.
Gateway's starting pitcher Vincent Molesky was able to keep Washington bats were quiet for 7.2 innings. In the bottom of the ninth inning, however, first baseman Jimmy Yezzo hit a two run homer to pull Washington to within one, but Washington fell short of the victory.
Wild Things starter, Jeremy Holcombe (1-3) took the loss for Washington allowing three runs on four hits, walking two and striking out three in six innings. Rookie Kolin Stanley pitched 2.2 innings, allowing no hits, striking out four and walking before leaving the game, and Tim Giel allowed no hits in a third of an inning.
The Wild Things and Grizzlies meet for the rubber match Sunday when first pitch is scheduled for 2:35 p.m. Tickets are available at the CONSOL Energy Park Box Office. The game will be broadcast live on WJPA 95.3 FM and on www.msasports.net. Air time is 2:25 p.m.
