Urquhart Stays Hot, Otters Look to Bounce Back Tonight vs. River City

August 22, 2015 - Frontier League (FL)
Evansville Otters News Release

O'Fallon, MO- The Evansville Otters (51-31) are in the midst of just their third three game losing streak of the season after dropping the series opener to the River City Rascals (47-35) 8-7 last night. The team that has not been swept all season long is now in second place in the East Division of the Frontier League, one game behind the Southern Illinois Miners (52-30).

The Otters offense has been stalling as of late and to try and put a jolt into the system, Andy McCauley, the manager of the Otters, moved Cory Urquhart up into the two-spot of the lineup after batting him ninth almost all season long. While the move was a little surprising, it came with good reason; Urquhart is one of the hottest bats in the Otters' lineup, picking up another hit last night to stretch his hitting to nine straight games.

During the hitting streak, Urquhart has collected 12 hits including a double, four runs scored and three RBI. Over their last five games, the Otters are managing to only hit .265, but Urquhart is hitting .357 in that span, which is tops on the team (along with newly acquired infielder Rolando Gomez). If you look at the last ten games, it becomes clear why McCauley shoved Urquhart into the two-hole; the shortstop from Yakima, WA is batting a sweltering .387 with those four runs scored and three RBI.

Urquhart and the Otters will try and get back on track tonight against the Rascals in game two of their series behind former major leaguer Brett Marshall. Marshall has been rock-steady for the Otters since his arrival, going 3-1 in four starts to the tune of a 2.02 ERA. The righty-handed hurler from Houston, TX was superb in his latest outing with the blub, going eight inning of four hit, shutout baseball, striking out seven and walking just four. His opponent on the mound tonight for the Rascals will be Joe Scanio, 9-5, 3.49 who was touched up a bit in his last start, going 5.2 innings pitched, allowing five runs, four earned in a no decision.

While the forecast in O'Fallon, MO calls for rain until 5 pm CDT, the scheduled first pitch time at T.R. Hughes Ballpark is 6:35 pm CDT so the game should start at the slotted time if the forecasts hold true. The pregame show on 91.5 FM WUEV will begin at 6:15 pm CDT and will feature Jake Donnelly along with a member of the Otters for a pregame interview, a look around the frontier league and a recap of last night's action.
