Attack Parry Series Sweep with 3-2 Win over Spirit

(Owen Sound, ON) The Saginaw Spirit lost to the Owen Sound Attack 3-2 Sunday afternoon in Owen Sound. The Attack avoid a season series sweep with the win; the Spirit won this season's other three contests. Saginaw's record moves to 27-17-0-2, good for 56 points and third place in the OHL West Division. Both the first place Plymouth Whalers, with 63 points, and the second place Sarnia Sting, with 57 points, were idle Sunday.

Owen Sound jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the first period with a goal scored by winger Howie Martin. Spirit winger Tomas Zaborsky (NYR 06) answered in the opening minutes of the second period with a goal assisted by center Ryan O'Marra (NYI 05) at the 1:58 mark tying the game 1-1. Attack winger Bobby Ryan regained Owen Sound's lead moments later with a power play goal at 2:49 in the second.

The third period saw Owen Sound advancing their lead to 3-1 with a goal from center Marcus Carroll :30 seconds into the period. The Spirit continued to press the Attack, with center Tyler Haskins reducing the scoring deficit to 3-2 with a power play goal at 18:29 in the third. Saginaw's Zaborsky assisted on the goal. The Spirit pulled netminder Ryan Daniels (OTT 06) in the final seconds to provide an extra attacker for the team's push to tie the game, but the Owen Sound defense prohibited the Spirit from moving the game out of regulation.

The Spirit return home to face-off against the Oshawa Generals and phenom John Tavares on Friday January 26th and against the Windsor Spitfires on Saturday January 27th. Both contests start at 7:11 PM.
