Otters take out Storm in shootout

GUELPH, Ont. - Zack Torquato, Jordan Skellett and Nick Palmieri all scored in a shootout as the Erie Otters knocked off the Guelph Storm 6-5 in an Ontario Hockey League game played in front of 3,507 this afternoon at the Guelph Sports and Entertainment Centre.

Torquato collected a goal and two assists in regulation while Palmieri and Skellett each had a goal and an assist. Justin Hodgman and Ronny Rogers scored the other two Otters goals.

Drew Doughty paced the Storm with a goal and three assists. Jeff Hayes, Ryan Potruff, Rafael Rotter and Mike McLean scored the others.

The Otters improved to 11-32-1-2 with the win. Guelph dropped to 23-15-2-6.

The Otters led 3-1 after one and 4-1 heading into the third. Torquato scored shorthanded in the opening two minutes of the game to put Erie up 5-1 before three consecutive power-play goals and an even strength tally by McLean with less than five minutes remaining in regulation forced overtime.

The Storm out shot the Otters 52-30 in the game as Kevin Beech posted the victory.

The three stars of the game were 1. Doughty; 2. Torquato and 3. Potruff.

The Otters return to action Wednesday night at the Tullio Arena when they complete a home-and-home series against the Storm in the first game of a three-game home stand.
