
IceDogs Continue Dominance Over Otters

Erie, PA (Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007) - The Mississauga IceDogs continued their fine play this evening, traveling to Erie and defeating the Otters 9-3. The IceDogs offence was strong from the get-go, jumping out to a 5-1 lead in the 1st period and cruising to their fourth straight win over the Otters this season. The victory improves the IceDogs record to 28-15-0-2 on the season.
The IceDogs 1st period goalscorers were Chris Lawrence, Jordan Owens (2) and Luca Caputi while the assists were credited to Owens, Caputi, Michael Swift and Andrew Merrett.
The Otters got on the board at 17:07 of the 1st on a penalty shot by former IceDogs forward Jordan Skellett. Mississauga bounced right back with another tally at 17:41. Jadran Beljo picked up the goal while the helpers went to Swift and Lawrence.
The Otters opened the 2nd period with an unassisted goal by Stanislav Polodna at 7:43 but it was overshadowed by another IceDogs goal at 12:29. This time, Caputi tickled the twine after accepting a Merrett feed.
The IceDogs continued to pour it on in the 3rd period with two early goals. Nathan Martine provided one at 2:23, with help from Oskar Osala. And, Drew Schiestel followed up with a power-play marker at 4:52, once again off of an Osala feed. The Otters got themselves one closer at 5:44 as Kelly Geoffrey was the marksman and Skellett and Polodna provided the support.
Chris Lawrence put the icing on the cake at 6:41 of the final frame with the team's 9th goal and his 7th tally of the weekend. The final assists went to Beljo and Martine.
Andrew Loverock got the start in net for the IceDogs and made 21 saves. Counterpart Kevin Beech got the nod for the Otters but was replaced by Jonathan Laniel halfway through the 1st period. The pair ended up combining for 27 stops. The IceDogs were 1 for 6 on the power-play while the Otters were 0 for 2. The three stars of the game were Caputi (1st), Lawrence (2nd) and Skellett (3rd).
The IceDogs will travel to Peterborough to take on the Petes on Thursday evening (January 25) at 7:00 p.m. before returning home to host the Sarnia Sting on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. and the Kingston Frontenacs next Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
