January 8, 2019 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Owen Sound Attack News Release
The Owen Sound Attack are pleased to announce the second annual REACH. Shoot. Score. charity game in support of the REACH Centre of Grey/Bruce.
On Saturday, February 9th the Owen Sound Attack will host the Kingston Frontenacs for a 7:30 p.m. start. The game will be a fundraising effort for the REACH Centre of Grey/Bruce and will include all of the classic features of our charity games.
The team will be wearing specially designed jerseys, which can be viewed below, that will be auctioned off following the game in support of the REACH Centre, a charitable organization supporting young adults with developmental disabilities.
The game will also feature a bucket pass, a puck toss, a silent auction and more. All money raised will go towards the REACH Centre goal of providing meaningful growth and interaction opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities once they have graduated high school.
Executive Director of the REACH Centre Jennifer Miller says "REACH. Shoot. Score. is a fantastic opportunity to rally our great community to support program growth and expansion. There are so many individuals in our region in need that are sadly marginalized after they finish high school. The REACH Centre uses a client centric approach to learning and focuses on skill acquisition and independence in whatever form that may take. We receive no government funding and rely on events like this one to be able to continue to grow so we can serve more exceptional young adults."
The REACH Centre offers four full days a week of programming out of Georgian Shores United Church in Owen Sound. They currently serve 30 young adults from across Grey/Bruce. Participants are encouraged to co-create stimulating and varied programming, suited to their individual interests and motivations. Programs include employment skill building, money management, fitness, healthy eating, art and social media.
Allan Gibbons, Attack Coordinator of Communications and Community Relations is excited for the second year of the game. "We are thrilled to be partnering with an organization that directly impacts so many individuals in the community. They're enriching lives and we're proud to support the effort" he said.
Prior to the event, the Attack and REACH will team up for events in the community. On Wednesday, January 16th members of the Attack will be on hand at East Side Mario's from 6 to 8 p.m. in Owen Sound for a celebrity serve event, with 10% of all sales being donated to charity.
New this year, the Attack will be holding a 'Bowl with the Bears' event at The Bowling Alley in Owen Sound. On Thursday, January 24th members of the Attack will be taking to the lanes with the public in a charity event for REACH. Tickets to this event are $30, and include 1 hour of bowling with the Attack, pizza and a drink.
Tickets to the REACH. Shoot. Score. game and 'Bowl With The Bears' are available at the MacVicar & McComb Remax Attack Box Office, online at attackhockey.com, or by calling 519-371-7452.
