Peterborough Petes News Release
(Peterborough, ON) - The Peterborough Petes, in association with the Canadian Cancer Society Peterborough & District Community Office, announced today additional details surrounding the tenth annual Petes Pink in the Rink fundraising campaign. The campaign concludes with the Pink in the Rink game on Saturday, February 2 at 7:05pm against the Oshawa Generals.
Steve Larmer and Cameron Mann were named this year's campaign chairmen at a press conference in October. A fundraising goal of $65,000 has been set by the Canadian Cancer Society and the 2019 Pink in the Rink Committee.
Once again this year, a special jersey design has been created to honour those affected by cancer (image attached). For a donation of $20 to the Canadian Cancer Society, fans were able to add the name of someone who has or continues to battle cancer, or who lost a fight to cancer, to be printed on the specialty jerseys. In addition, fans will have the opportunity to bid on and purchase commemorative game-worn jerseys during a live post-game auction.
Other game night fundraising initiatives will include a silent auction, chuck-a-ball contest, and t-shirt sales.
The campaign continues with a Petes Celebrity Servers events on Wednesday, January 9 from 5-8pm at Kelsey's restaurant and on Friday, January 11 from 5-8pm at Montana's restaurant in Peterborough. Fans are encouraged to visit either restaurant to meet Petes players who will be signing autographs, acting as celebrity servers, and selling 2019 Pink in the Rink t-shirts ($10) all in support of the Canadian Cancer Society Peterborough & District Community Office.

Funds raised through this event will be focused on research for women's cancers including ovarian, cervical, uterine, and breast. It is estimated that more than 1 in 9 Canadian women will develop one of these cancers in their lifetime. The Canadian Cancer Society recognizes the importance of research focusing on women's cancers, which is why they have invested over $136 million over the past 20 years, resulting in an increase in survival rates.
