Atlanta United FC News Release

TORONTO - Atlanta United played Toronto FC to a 2-2 draw Saturday night at BMO Field behind goals from Giorgos Giakoumakis and Machop Chol. Giakoumakis scored in his fourth consecutive game, while Chol scored his first MLS goal.

Atlanta jumped ahead in the fourth minute when Giakoumakis scored off a Brooks Lennon corner kick. Lennon played an in-swinging ball that Giakoumakis headed from the corner of the six-yard box. His redirection was perfectly placed, just past the outstretched arm of Sean Johnson and underneath the crossbar to give Atlanta a 1-0 lead.

The rest of the first half played out even with neither team generating a big chance until Toronto equalized in the 43rd minute. Richie Laryea picked up a pass from Federico Bernardeschi nearly 40 yards out and barreled through midfield before firing a right-footed shot into the right corner of the goal.

Toronto made a pair of attacking substitutions at halftime with Ayo Akinola and Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty coming on for Jordan Perruzza and Alonso Coello. Then in the 49th minute, Atlanta was forced to sub off Giakoumakis due to an apparent injury and the Greek striker was replaced by Miguel Berry.

Chol gave Atlanta the lead in the 76th minute. Second-half substitute Andrew Gutman started the play by finding a wide-open Luiz Araújo near the corner. Araújo settled the ball down and crossed into the middle of the box, where Chol rose above everyone and headed to the far post to make it 2-1.

Toronto leveled the match in the 94th minute as Brandon Servania hit a low shot to the far post past a diving Quentin Westberg.

Atlanta United (4-1-3, 15 points) returns to action when it hosts Chicago Fire at Mercedes-Benz stadium on Sunday, April 23 (4:30 p.m., MLS Season Pass/FS1, 92.9 The Game, La Mejor). All Atlanta United matches are available with an MLS Season Pass subscription, located on the Apple TV app.
