Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HARRISON, N.J. - Houston Dynamo FC drew 1-1 with New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena earlier today to earn their first road point of the season.
Houston took the lead in the 68th minute following a goal kick from Dynamo goalkeeper Steve Clark. Forward Iván Franco evaded pressure from a Red Bulls defender to control the ball inside the box and calmly found midfielder Adalberto "Coco" Carrasquilla for the first goal of the evening.
New York equalized in the 89th minute as Omir Fernandez headed the ball into the back of the net off a corner delivery from John Tolkin.
The Red Bulls threatened the opposing goal in the eighth minute following a sequence inside the box that began with Cameron Harper. The outside back found space near the endline, but Fernandez's effort was blocked by the Dynamo defense. That was the first of six blocks by the Dynamo defense this evening.
Clark was well positioned in the 12th minute to handle the first shot on goal from the Red Bulls. Daniel Edelman played a rebound into the box for Tom Barlow, but his effort floated into the arms of the Dynamo shot stopper.
Houston's first shot of the game came off the right foot of Carrasquilla in the 29th minute. Forward Amine Bassi won the ball near midfield to spark the counterattack, but Carrasquilla's effort went wide of the far post.
Clark was called into action again in the 34th minute to deny Sean Nealis from point blank. The Dynamo goalkeeper would secure the ensuing corner kick and finished the game with six saves against the Red Bulls.
The Dynamo return to Shell Energy Stadium on Saturday, April 22 to host Club Internacional de Fútbol Miami at 7:30 p.m.
