San Jose Earthquakes News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes (3-2-2) face Sporting Kansas City (0-4-3) tonight at PayPal Park in San Jose, Calif. The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. PT and will be streamed globally on Apple TV's MLS Season Pass, as well as on local radio via 810 AM The Spread (English) and 1370 KZSF (Spanish).
The Earthquakes are looking to extend their four-match unbeaten streak at home to start the 2023 season (3-0-1). With a win, San Jose would have their best start to a season through eight games since 2016 (4-2-2).
Sporting Kansas City have fared better in head-to-head matchups with San Jose of late, holding a five-match unbeaten streak (3-0-2) dating back to 2019. The Quakes haven't scored more than a single goal in any of the past five regular season meetings.
San Jose is led by forward Cristian Espinoza, who currently sits atop the MLS leaderboard in key passes (20) and is tied for fifth in the league with four goals. Espinoza has scored three goals in the past two games.
Sporting Kansas City is currently at the bottom of the Western Conference standings after scoring just two goals through seven matches. Despite the team's lack of goals early in the season, Sporting Kansas City ranks second in MLS in total scoring attempts and key passes.
