Asadoorian's Slam the Difference as Tornadoes Top Brockton, 5-1

Brockton, Mass. - Worcester CF Eric Asadoorian continues to be a thorn in the Brockton Rox' side, going 3-for-3 with a grand slam as the Tornadoes defeated Brockton, 5-1, in a Can-Am League matchup at Campanelli Stadium on Thursday evening.

The scoring was opened by Worcester (5-8) in the third, with Asadoorian singling, moving to second on an error, and coming home on SS Omar Pena's RBI double. The Rox (6-7) tied the game at one in their half of the third, with CF Chris Valencia bringing in SS Dominic Ramos on an RBI groundout.

The Tornadoes took the lead for good the following frame, loading the bases after 3B Chris Colabello singled, C Alex Trezza doubled, and DH Gordie Gronkowski was hit by a pitch. Asadoorian, whose ninth-inning solo home run broke a tie and gave Worcester the 6-5 victory in Brockton's last home game on May 30, this time cleared the sacks with a grand slam off of Brockton starter Mike Wlodarczyk, giving the Tornadoes a 5-1 lead that they would not relinquish.

Three Tornadoes pitchers gave held the Rox to just five base hits, with starter Matt Giusti (1-2) allowing the single run on two hits in six innings of work. Joe Slusarz earned his fourth save of the season, retiring all three batters he faced in the ninth inning.

Wlodarczyk (1-1) took the loss, fanning seven while allowing eight hits, with four of the five runs earned in seven innings pitched. Buster Lussier kept the Tornadoes off the scoreboard in the final two innings, and has not allowed a run in his first 9.2 innings on the mound this season.

1B Melvin Falu improved his average to .316 on the season with a 2-for-3 evening that included a seventh-inning double, Brockton's only extra-base hit of the evening. Aside from Asadoorian, Pena was the only other Worcester player with a multiple-hit night, going 2-for-5.

Brockton ends its one-game homestand and goes back on the road Friday night, starting a three-game set at first-place Quebec at 7:05 p.m. Freddy Flores (1-0) toes the slab for the Rox, facing the Capitales' Dan Sausville (2-0).
