Springfield Armor News Release
SPRINGFIELD. Mass. - Behind a game-high 43 points from guard Pierre Jackson, the Idaho Stampede (4-0) took down the Springfield Armor (0-4) by a final score of 117-107 in the Armor's home opener Friday night before 4,366 fans at the MassMutual Center.
Jackson started on a furious pace, knocking down three of his first four three point attempts en route to 11 first quarter points as the Stampede opened up a 14-point lead after the first frame. Dee Bost added eight points through the first quarter, hitting two of his first three shots from beyond the arc. A 7-0 run by Idaho broke a 14-14 tie midway through the period as the Stampede ended on a 7-2 run to take a 35-21 lead after 12 minutes.
Springfield evened the pace of the game in the second quarter as the two teams each scored 30 points which left Idaho with a 14-point halftime lead at 65-51. The Armor ended the half on a 10-0 run which continued into the third quarter as the two teams again kept the same pace with 27 points apiece in the period. Springfield eventually trimmed the deficit to 10 at 75-65 with 7:50 remaining in the third after a running hook by guard Justin Johnson which finished an 11-6 run that spanned 2:10. Idaho responded over the next six minutes, taking an 18-point lead (92-74) at the 1:02 mark following a jumper by Richard Howell who finished the game with 20 points.
Trailing by 14 entering the fourth at 92-78, the Armor rallied midway through the frame as a 7-0 run, capped by a three from guard JamesOn Curry, cut the deficit to just eight with 5:23 to play. Jackson heated up again, squandering the Armor's rally by scoring seven straight Idaho points as the Stampede bumped their lead back to 14 with just 2:13 left on the clock.
Curry scored six straight points of his own for the Armor over the final 50 seconds, giving him 19 for the game, but his effort fell short as Springfield dropped by 10 to Idaho, 117-107, after the final buzzer. Jackson's 43 points came on 15-of-25 shooting including a 6-of-10 mark from beyond the arc. Bost went for 25 as the guard hit five three pointers, combining with Jackson to account for 73 percent of the treys on the night for Idaho, with E.J. Singler adding the final four and finishing with 12 points. Guard/Forward Gary Forbes led the Springfield offense with a team-high 26 points behind 10 field goals and a pair of treys.
As a team, the Stampede hit 15-of-33 shots (45.5 percent) from three point land, but he Armor held a 35-33 edge in the rebounding facet. Springfield shot a season-best 55.3 percent from the floor, but shot just 72 percent (18-of-25) from the charity stripe.
The Armor will continue their home schedule on Sunday, December 8 at 3:00 p.m. against the Maine Red Claws, NBA Development League affiliate of the Boston Celtics.
