Fort Wayne's Protest Granted for Misapplication of Rule

December 6, 2013 - NBA G League (G League) News Release

NEW YORK - The NBA Development League today granted a game protest filed by the Fort Wayne Mad Ants following its 100-99 loss to the Texas Legends on Nov. 22 at Dr. Pepper Arena. The league's decision will result in the replay of the final 0.9 seconds of the game with the scored tied at 99 and the Mad Ants in possession of the ball.

The Mad Ants protested the game because an incorrect technical foul was assessed to the team following a record keeping error pertaining to the number of time outs the Mad Ants had remaining. As a result of the technical foul, Texas was awarded a free throw, which Chris Douglas-Roberts made to give the Legends a 100-99 lead and possession of the ball with 0.9 seconds remaining in the game. The initial error occurred with 10:35 remaining in the fourth quarter when a Mad Ants time out was incorrectly recorded by the Official Scorer.

The replay will occur at a date and time to be determined.

The protest is the second granted by the NBA D-League in the league's 13-year history. The first successful protest was granted to the Utah Flash during the 2008-09 season.
