Argos Look to Build off Successful 2021 Season; Announce Schedule for 2022 Campaign
December 16, 2021 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Toronto Argonauts News Release
TORONTO - The Toronto Argonauts Football Club announced today the team's schedule for the 2022 Canadian Football League season.
After a 2021 CFL campaign that saw the Boatmen finish first in the East Division with a 9-5 record, including a 6-1 home record at BMO Field, the league will revert to its typical 18-game regular season plus two preseason games in 2022. The Argos open their schedule with a week one bye and officially kick things off at home on Thursday, June 16th at 7:30 p.m. vs. East Division rival Montreal. This marks the first time Toronto has opened their regular season against the Alouettes since 2001, 21 years!
Highlights from the 2022 home schedule:
Toronto's Week 6 game vs. Saskatchewan on July 16th will be a neutral site game but will officially be an Argos home game. Toronto is no stranger to playing neutral site games recently having played in Moncton, NB (2019, 2010), a preseason game in Guelph, ON (2018), Fort McMurray, AB (2015), a preseason game in Halifax, NS (2005) and a preseason game in London, ON (2012). More details to come in the new year.
Five of the Argos eight home games at BMO Field will be night games (7/7:30 p.m.) this season; Two on Saturday nights, one on Friday night as well as a Monday and Thursday kickoff. The remaining three BMO home dates are slated for afternoon starts.
Toronto went 6-1 at BMO Field in 2021, winning their first six home games for the first time since 1997 and went 4-0 against East division rivals. The Boatmen welcome Hamilton, Montreal and Ottawa to town in five of eight home games in 2022.
Bye Weeks in Week 1, 5 and 15
Additional notes from the full schedule:
Toronto and Hamilton dueled four times in 2021 (five including playoffs) for the first time since 2012 and will do so again in 2022. All four games between the long-time rivals will come within a month from August 6 to September 5, which is sure to keep the rivalry alive.
The Labour Day Classic in Hamilton continues September 5th in the 51st chapter of the traditional clash.
12 Saturday games, including seven games in a row to end the season. Summer and Fall weekends coupled with football, an unbeatable combination!
17-of-18 games will be on six days of rest or more (the most in the league), including eight games with 8+ days of rest.
Six of the Argos final nine games come against East Division opponents, which could have serious playoff implications. Toronto will play Montreal and Ottawa three times each in 2022.
The 109th Grey Cup in Regina, Saskatchewan to be played November 20th , the earliest the championship game has been played since 2006.
