Everett AquaSox News Release

EVERETT, WA: A late ninth inning comeback by the AquaSox came up just short as Everett dropped game five of the series against the Vancouver Canadians by a score of 6-5.

Down by four in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Sox mounted their comeback. With the bases loaded and two outs, Mike Salvatore stepped to the plate with a chance to tie the game. Salvatore hit a deep fly ball into left center field that hit off the top of the wall, just shy of a game-tying grand slam. The bases-clearing double brought the Sox within one, 6-5.

Alberto Rodriguez came up next, but with the tying run on second base flied out to left field to end the game.

Rodriguez jump started the AquaSox to an early 1-0 lead with a bottom of the first inning two-out RBI single that scored shortstop Noelvi Marte. After Vancouver tied things up in the top of the third inning, Canadians third baseman Addison Barger belted a 404-foot solo home run to deep left field, giving Vancouver a 2-1 lead. Everett starting pitcher Juan Mercedes continued to struggle as Vancouver center fielder Garrett Spain came up with a two-run single with two out, to extend the Canadians lead to 4-1. Mercedes would end his night after 4.1 innings, allowing five runs, four earned, on five hits and eight strikeouts.

The Frogs added on a run in the bottom of the fifth inning when second baseman Salvatore drove in center fielder Cole Barr with an RBI single.

Both teams had seven hits in the contest. Vancouver designated hitter Zach Britton had two hits with two RBI's. Noelvi Marte and Salvatore both had two hit games while Salvatore ended the night with four of Everett's five runs batted in.

Mercedes (3-5) took the loss on the mound and Justin Kelly (2-1) picked up the win out of the bullpen.

Vancouver will try to even the series tomorrow. First pitch is at 4:05 at Everett's Funko Field. The Amazing Tyler will be back in the ballpark tomorrow, performing his amazing balancing act throughout the game. This is the final home game for Everett before heading to Pasco, WA to take on the Tri-City Dust Devils for a six-game series.
