WEST HAVEN, CT - New Have County 1B Thomari-Story Harden drove a game- winning single to right-center field with two outs in the ninth inning to give the Cutters a 4-3 win over the Rox in front of 1,203 at Yale Field in West Haven, CT. The loss for the Rox is their second straight by just a run; the Rox are now 5-7 in one-run games this season. RHP Robert Averette gave up just three runs in seven innings for the Rox on the hill, striking out eight in a no- decision. 2B Mike Scanzano had a two-hit game for the Rox and RF Keith Brachold drove in two runs.
For the second straight time, Averette allowed two runs in the first inning but settled into a grove. He struck out six batters in the first four innings and eight overall. The Rox scored in the second to make it 2-1 on a Brachold sacrifice fly.
In the top half of the sixth, the Rox took their first and only lead of the game. Singles by 2B Mike Scanzano, DH Kris Zacuto, and 1B Jason Radwan loaded the bases. Brachold drove home his second run of the game with his second sacrifice fly, tying the game at two. After a single by CF Brad Rosenblat that reloaded the bases, C Mike Torres drew a bases-loaded walk to give the Rox a 3-2 lead. The lead was short-lived, as SS Chas Terni's RBI two-out RBI single tied the game at three in the seventh.
In the ninth, RHP Wayne Lundgren allowed a single to 2B Jose Delgado, Delgado's third hit of the game. After stealing second, Delgado scored on Story-Harden's gapper to right with two outs. The Rox have a day off on Monday and travel to Lynn, MA on Tuesday for the first game of a three-game series with the North Shore Spirit.
