New Jersey Jackals News Release

The New Jersey Jackals and the Nashua Pride traded blows throughout their rubber match on a blistering hot day at Yogi Berra Stadium.

The Jackals survived a 15 run, 28-hit marathon to win 8-7 in 13-innings. Guillermo Reyes and Jason Tuttle ignited the Jackals final inning with walks allowed by Pride reliever, Nic Slack. Zach Smithlin sprayed an opposite-field, game-winning single that scored Reyes to lift the Jackals (11-11) back to .500.

Ricardo Cordova belted a two-run blast in the eighth inning to extend the Jackals lead to 7-4, presumably enough for the victory.

However, Willie Espinal entered the ninth inning and allowed three runs on a walk and three hits to tie the game at 7. Espinal entered in relief of Josh Schwartz, who bailed out Aaron Myers in the seventh and retired the Pride in order again in the eighth.

Adam Nikolic (1-0) won his first career game in relief for the Jackals and reliever Nic Slack (0-4) was on the losing end for the Pride.

After not obtaining a hit through four innings against the Pride's starting pitcher, Dan Reichert, the Jackals delivered a barrage of doubles in the sixth en route to a four-run sixth inning. Wilton Veras, Bill Peavey, and Guillermo Reyes all collected RBI-doubles to give the Jackals a 5-2 advantage.

The Pride jumped out to an early 2-0 advantage with precise pitching from Reichert. After surrendering the two-run lead, the Pride did its best in the seventh to climb back into the contest.

The Pride knocked out Jackals starting pitcher, Aaron Myers in the process with two straight hits, a single by Bryan Duplissie and a double off the bat of Bryce Kartler. After a Ricardo Cordova error at second, Jared Johnson hit a two-run double to bridge the gap to 5-4. Jared Schwartz would enter and retire the Pride in the seventh and again the eighth.
