Another Express Alum Gets the Call

BAD BREAK GIVES BIG BREAK: A break of Houston Astros infielder Jose Vizcaino's wrist last night has given former Express infielder Eric Bruntlett his big break. The Astros are calling up Bruntlett from Triple-A New Orleans. Bruntlett played 28 games at second and 44 at shortstop for the Zephyrs, while hitting .265 with two home runs, 27 RBIs and 45 runs in 74 games. Bruntlett, a 2000 ninth-round pick out of Stanford, is expected to be in uniform in time for the game this afternoon at Arizona. Bruntlett is the all-time stolen base king in Express history, stealing 35 last year and 57 in his two-year Express career. He also ranks first all-time in runs scored with 165, and second in hits with 257. Bruntlett becomes the 22nd Express alum to be promoted to the big leagues.

EXPRESS NOTES: With last night's attendance of 10,920 the Express have drawn 381,459 fans for the year. The 2003 season attendance, with 30 home games remaining, already ranks 10th all-time in the Texas League's 115-year history. After the current homestand the 2003 attendance should rank number four all-time, right behind the Express' previous three years.

FRONTIER DAYS: The Annual Frontier Days Celebration in Round Rock will be combined this year with the city's annual 4th of July Celebration.
