TACOMA, Washington -- Doug Sessions allowed just one unearned run over six innings to lead the New Orleans Zephyrs past the Tacoma Rainiers, 3-1 on Tuesday Night in Tacoma.
Sessions (4-1) yielded five hits and two walks, striking out five, for the win. He has not allowed an earned run in his last three starts, spanning 21 frames. Brandon Puffer pitched a perfect ninth inning, striking out one, to pick up his fifth save. Kyle Logan went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Jason Lane was 2-for-4 with a double for New Orleans, which has won four in a row and eight of nine.
Chad Meyers finished 2-for-4 with a double and Luis Figueroa went 1-for-3 and scored the only run of the game for Tacoma, which has lost five of its last six. Brian Sweeney (7-6) gave up three runs -- two earned -- five hits with six strikeouts over six innings to take the loss.
The Zephyrs are off on Wednesday and will open an eight game home stand on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. with the first of four games against the Albuquerque Isotopes. The game can be heard on WTIX-AM 690 and at www.zephyrsbaseball.com with Tim Grubbs and Ron Swoboda calling the action.
