Another Ducks Win Puts Former Grizzlies On Stanley Cup Again

West Valley City, Utah - The Anaheim Ducks are one win away from capturing their first-ever Stanley Cup Championship and putting two more former Utah Grizzlies players on the famous trophy. Their series with Ottawa resumes Wednesday in Southern California with Anaheim holding a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven set.

Anaheim players Ric Jackman and Scott Niedermayer both logged time in a Grizzlies uniform during their careers. It would be the fourth Stanley Cup Title for Niedermayer. (Three With New Jersey: 1995, 2000, 2003). Jackman is in his first-ever season of NHL playoff hockey.

It would mark the second time in two years that at least one former Grizzlies player has been apart of a Stanley Cup Championship. Last year, Ray Whitney was apart of the Carolina Hurricanes championship effort.

The Grizzlies open the 2007-2008 season on Friday, October 19 at US Airways Center in Downtown Phoenix visiting the RoadRunners. The home opener for the Grizzlies is Friday, October 26 versus Idaho.

The Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL, enter their third season in America's "Premier AA Hockey League." On May 22, 2007, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie announced an affiliation with the NHL's New York Islanders and the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers. At the start of the 2006-2007 season, 23 former Grizzlies were on NHL rosters. 12 of those former players advanced to the playoffs.
