Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings and the American Hockey League's Manitoba Moose have extended their affiliation agreement into the 2007-08 season.
The Salmon Kings organization will work in conjunction with Craig Heisinger (Senior Vice-President and General Manager) and the Moose scouting and coaching staff in the development of players for the AHL and NHL.
"Our two organizations have a great working relationship and we are pleased to announce this affiliation extension," said Dan Belisle, Salmon Kings Vice-President of Hockey Operations and General Manager. "I am looking forward to another season of us collaborating to support and train the prospects for the Manitoba Moose, as well as the Vancouver Canucks organization."
The Salmon Kings made their first playoff appearance last season, and the Moose finished second in the Western Conference. The original affiliation agreement was announced on July 18, 2006.
"We are looking forward to once again working with Dan Belisle, Mark Morrison and the rest of the Salmon Kings organization next season," said Heisinger. "We made great strides in the inaugural year of our partnership in 2006 and the Salmon Kings did a good job in the development of some players we hope will play a role in the future of the Manitoba Moose."
A number of Salmon Kings players donned a Manitoba jersey during the 2006-07 season, including Marc-Andre Bernier, Phil Cole, Patrick Coulombe, Julien Ellis, and Milan Gajic. In addition, rookie Defenseman Matt Kelly was called up during the Calder Cup playoffs.
The Salmon Kings announced an affiliation extension with the Vancouver Canucks, the Manitoba Moose NHL affiliate, on May 30, 2007.
The Salmon Kings will kick off their fourth season in the ECHL in Idaho on Oct 19, 2007, and will host the Las Vegas Wranglers for the Home Opener Series on Oct 26 and 27.
