Fayetteville Marksmen News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC--- The FireAntz only win against the Orlando Seals came on Nov. 24, 2002, until now. The FireAntz held off the league's top team 5-3 behind great performances from the team's newest members.

Brett Annetts made his Antz debut in style tonight by starting the FireAntz off with a 1-0 lead 13 minutes into the game. Orlando's Mark White tied the game up at the end of the first period.

The second period looked like it was going to end up deadlocked at one. The FireAntz turned up the heat in the last two minutes for a second intermission lead. For the second time this game and fourth time this year Annetts found the back of the net at the 18:19 mark. Nine seconds later Matt Kohansky lit the lamp for 23rd time this season.

Orlando stormed back in the third period with two goals of their own. Mike Sanderson tallied his tenth goal of the season three minutes into the final period. Just past the half way point Seals forward Brad Federenko got the equalizer. That was the last time Antz goaltender Ken Shepard let anything past him. Shepard turned away the final eight shots Orlando threw at him in route to his 34 save performance.

The Crown Coliseum started rocking again when Bruce Watson put the FireAntz ahead with a controversial goal at the 15:38 mark. At the time of the goal the FireAntz appeared to have six players on the ice, but it went unnoticed. Riding the momentum, another FireAntz newcomer, Chris Cerrella scored his first Antz goal with assists going to Peter Cermak and Shepard.

In other Atlantic Coast Hockey League action, Macon beat Winston-Salem 6-3. With the FireAntz victory and Parrots loss, the Antz move five points and .010 percentage points ahead of their arch rival.
