Mississippi RiverKings News Release
SOUTHAVEN, Miss â Friday night forward Don Parsons scored his second hat trick of the season and added an assist to power the RiverKings to a solid 4-1 victory over the Indianapolis Ice. With his four points he retook the lead in the league scoring race. The âKings have won three straight games and five of their last six to keep pace in the playoff chase. Having fallen to second in the league scoring race Parsons was motivated right from the get go to get back on top and help the âKings win. Early in the first period he cut left wing side before sliding a pass backdoor to Jay Neal who tipped it home for his 17th of the season just 3:27 into the game. Later in the frame Parsons cut into the Indy zone and dipped behind the net of goalie Shawn Silver, Parsons then muscled thru a slash by Ryan Aikia and spun in front to backhand a shot into the net for his first of the night at 11:39.
In the second period, the Don Parsons show resumed. His first of two in the period came at 5:13, and he completed the trick with a backhand sweep across the crease on Silver at 7:32. Jason Elliott tallied the only Ice goal when he slipped a five-hole shot along the ice through RiverKings goalie Jean-Francois Racine at 3:32, breaking up Parsons' chance for a natural hat trick.
Neither team was able to tickle the twine in the third as both goaltenders turned aside all the shots in the final 20. Racine finished with 19 saves on 20 shots to improve to 20-8-2. Silver dropped to 26-8-3 as he allowed four goals on 23 shots RiverKings shots. The Ice finished 0-2 on the man advantage while the âKings were held off the scoreboard on one power play attempt.
