Stockton Ports News Release

SAN JOSE, Ca. - The Ports hit three solo home runs, including two by Max Muncy, and Luke Anderson fired seven shutout innings as Stockton snapped a three-game losing streak with a 3-0 victory over the Giants on Thursday night at Excite Ballpark in San Jose.

After going 0-for-5 with four strikeouts on Wednesday night, Muncy got the Ports (18-30) on the board with one out in the top of the first. Down in the count 0-1 against San Jose starter Nick Sinacola, Muncy launched a solo shot over the wall in left to give the Ports a 1-0 lead.

The Ports added on and chased Sinacola in the top of the fifth inning with back-to-back shots.

With two outs and nobody on, Muncy struck again with a line drive over the wall in left center field for his second home run of the night to give the Ports a 2-0 lead. Kevin Richards followed with a solo shot of his own down the left field line, increasing the Stockton lead to 3-0.

The three runs of support were more than enough for Stockton starter Luke Anderson, who held the Giants (28-20) to just five hits over seven shutout innings, pitching around five walks while striking out six. Anderson escaped a bases loaded jam with nobody out in the bottom of the second with back-to-back strikeouts of Max Wright and Alexander Suarez before getting Grant McCray to fly out to left to end the threat. With runners on the corners and two outs in the third, Anderson struck out Garrett Frechette to preserve the Ports' 1-0 lead. The right-hander faced just one over the minimum and did not give up a hit over his final four innings.

Robin Vazquez pitched a 1-2-3 eighth and Hunter Breault worked around two singles in the ninth inning getting San Jose pinch-hitter Yorlis Rodriguez, who represented the tying run, to ground out to third baseman Jalen Greer to end the ballgame.

Anderson (3-2) picked up the win for the Ports while Sinacola (3-3) took the loss for San Jose, allowing three runs on five hits in 4.2 innings. Breault notched his seventh save of the season with a scoreless ninth.

The Ports will try to even their series with the Giants in San Jose on Friday evening in game four of six at Excite Ballpark this week with first pitch at 6:30 pm.
