Spokane Chiefs News Release
SPOKANE, Wash. - Los Angeles Kings prospect Jaret Anderson-Dolan extended his goal streak to six games on Friday night as the Chiefs took down the B.C. Division champion Vancouver Giants, 4-1.
The Chiefs blew the scoring wide open in the first period, jumping out to a 3-0 lead by the end of the opening frame. They got on the board first following a Vancouver turnover that led to a 3-on-1 rush the other way. Luke Toporowski and Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Filip Kral played a quick game of give-and-go before Kral snapped it home inside the left post.
San Jose Sharks prospect Jake McGrew was the next man up, turning the corner on the right wing to strike on the power play at 11:39, making it 2-0 Chiefs. Anderson-Dolan's goal - his 16th of the season - came with the Chiefs again on the power play, with only 21 seconds remaining in the period.
The sides traded goals in the second period as Vancouver's Alex Kannok Leipert cut the lead to 3-1 on a power play at 17:52. Answering right back were the Chiefs as McGrew picked up his second of the game 64 seconds later, capping 2-on-1 with Riley Woods sprung by a beautiful stretch pass from Michael King. The goal moved McGrew into a tie with rookie Adam Beckman for second-most goals on the team at 27.
The Chiefs were able to survive three third period penalties as both sides were held scoreless in the final period, securing the victory for the home team.
Spokane's Bailey Brkin impressed between the pipes yet again, stopped 37 of 38 Vancouver shots as the Giants' Trent Miner was 20-for-24. Spokane was 2-for-2 on their power play chances while Vancouver was held 1-for-5.
The Chiefs are now seven points ahead of Tri-City for third place in the U.S. Division. They trail Portland by five points for second.
