(ALTOONA, PA)- Anastacio Martinez, one of the two pitchers acquired by the Pirates in Tuesday's four-player deal with the Boston Red Sox, was added to the Altoona Curve's active roster Wednesday.

Martinez was acquired with reliever Brandon Lyon in exchange for left-handed relievers Scott Sauerbeck and Mike Gonzalez.

This season, the 24-year old native of the Dominican Republic served as the closer for the Eastern League's Portland Sea Dogs, converting on 14 of 16 save opportunities, while posting a 3-1 record and 2.25 ERA in 34 games.

Originally signed by the Red Sox as a non-drafted free agent in January 1998, Martinez spent his first five professional seasons as a starter before being moved to the bullpen for the 2003 season. In 2002, Martinez went 5-12 with a 5.31 ERA in 27 starts for the Eastern League's Trenton Thunder.

He will be in a Curve uniform for the first time on Thursday night, when Altoona completes a four-game series against the New Haven Ravens (Toronto Blue Jays) at Blair County Ballpark. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
