Reimers Honored by Eastern League

The Eastern League named New Haven Ravens righthander Cam Reimers Chevrolet Pitcher of the Week for the week ending July 20. Reimers was 1-0 with eight strikeouts and a 1.29 ERA.. In his first and only start of the week, the 24-year old struck out eight batters and did not surrender a walk while scattering one run on six hits in seven innings of work to earn a win against the Akron Aeros at Canal Park. The 6'5", 200 lb. hurler has won five of his last six decisions and ranks seventh in the league with a 2.90 ERA. Reimers, who pitched a scoreless inning and struck out a batter in the Eastern League All-Star Game July 16, was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 35th round of the June 1998 draft.

Baseball Camps Coming Up

The New Haven Ravens host two summer baseball camps at historic Yale Field. Each camp provides fundamental instruction in hitting, pitching, infield, outfield, baserunning, and bunting. The first camp, for children 6-9, is on July 28, 29, and 31 from 9:00 am to noon. The second camp, for children 10 and up, is on August 11, 12 and 13 from 9:00 am to noon. The cost of each camp is $135. To reserve your spot, please call Kristian Velez at 203-782-1666 x. 12.

It's Not Over

With a fresh coat of paint on the roof and now a new layer of stone dust on the warning track, historic Yale Field is looking the best it has in years. That's just one of the signs that, while there are only 20 regular season games left, the Ravens are making the most of their final season in New Haven, and possibly setting the stage for the return of pro baseball. Ravens staffer Ray Hernandez took a look at all of the improvements that have been made this season as the team continues to try to win over fans.

Red-Hot Rich

Ravens Second baseman Dominic Rich has quietly put together a hot streak to raise his batting average from .194 (May 25) to its current .263.. Rich is hitting .375 with five doubles, one homerun and nine RBIs in July. The Sunbury, PA native was profiled by his hometown newspaper during the Ravens' recent trip to Altoona.

Ravens at the Yale Bookstore Saturday

Ravens staff member Sam Rubin, author of the book Baseball in New Haven, will be joined by Rally Raven and a Ravens player this Saturday, July 26 at 1:00 for a book signing and discussion at the Yale Bookstore in downtown New Haven. The event will also feature a drawing for the Ravens' World Series ticket sweepstakes, giving all fans in attendance a chance to win World Series tickets.
