Anaheim Storm News Release
Anaheim, CA (February 15, 2005) - The National Lacrosse League (NLL) and Anaheim Storm announced today that Assistant Captains Casey Powell (F) and Chris Seller (D) have been named to the West Division All-Star Team. The 2005 All-Star Game will be played at Pengrowth Saddledome in Calgary on Saturday, February 26th and air live on NBC at 11am Pacific.
This is the fourth All-Star appearance (1999, 2000, Rochester; 2004, Anaheim) for Powell, a 29-year-old forward who graduated from Syracuse and now lives in Newport Beach, Calif.
"It is a great honor to be selected to the NLL All-Star team," said Powell. "The players in this league are the best in the world. I'm proud to represent the Anaheim Storm in Calgary and on NBC."
Powell has played in four games this season recording six goals, five assists and 17 loose balls. In 2004, he had a career high 68 points (27G, 41A) in 15 contests with the Anaheim Storm. His career total in 42 games played is 146 points (58G, 88A).
A six-year veteran in the NLL, Seller will make his first All-Star appearance in Calgary. This is his second season with the Anaheim Storm; the 28-year-old was acquired prior to the 2004 season in a trade with Buffalo.
"I am honored to be playing in the All-Star game and am excited to be among such great company" said Seller. "I look forward to teaming with guys like Gary Gait for the first time."
This season, Seller has three goals, four assists and 30 loose balls in six games played. A native of British Columbia, he had a career high 26 points (18G, 8A) in 2004, in addition to 66 loose balls in a total of 16 games played.
The East and West Division All-Star teams each consist of eighteen players (sixteen runners and two goaltenders). The starting lineups for the East and West Division teams were announced earlier. Online fan balloting comprised one-third of the selection of the starting lineups, with the league's general managers and media providing the other two-thirds. The league, in collaboration with East All-Stars head coach Paul Day (Rochester) and West All-Stars head coach Chris Hall (Calgary), selected the reserves.
The Anaheim Storm are back at home on Friday, March 4, against Colorado. Tickets are on sale now at the Arrowhead Pond Box Office, ticketmaster.com and all Ticketmaster outlets. Season ticket packages and group discounts are also available; call 714.704.2670 for details. Visit the official Storm web site, anaheimstorm.com, for the latest news and updates.
